Antilles (ASX:AAU) confirms high grade Cuban copper

March 3, 2023 0 By Rueben Hale

Antilles Gold has validated high-grade copper intercepts of up to 4.85% Cu from 18.5m from last year’s drilling at its El Pilar gold-copper oxide deposit in central Cuba.

SGS’s certified laboratory in Canada have validated Cuban laboratory, LACEMI, results from 1800m of drilling completed in September last year.

It is a milestone boost for the Company, eyeing subsequent development of the mineral-rich region’s previously explored copper, gold, and silver deposits.

Antilles Gold Executive Chairman Brian Johnson said his Company is at the forefront of the emerging mining sector in Cuba and expects to develop several projects through its joint venture with the Cuban Government’s mining company, GeoMinera SA.

Part of that ambition is a near-term project of the joint venture company Minera La Victoria SA, which is the proposed development of the La Demajagua open pit mine on the Isle of Youth in southwest Cuba to produce concentrates containing gold, silver, and antimony.

Meanwhile, Antilles Metals Inc’s new subsidiary will enter into a joint venture with GeoMinera to explore the extensive El Pilar copper-gold porphyry system where ground magnetic and induced polarisation surveys are currently unfolding.

Mr Johnson added that its Cuban activities are transitioning into two distinct arms.

“One will focus on developing a series of relatively small gold mines within the Minera La Victoria joint venture, but having the potential for worthwhile cumulative gold production and profitability, and the other on exploring major copper targets,” he said.
