BMM ready to drill at Gorge

BMM ready to drill at Gorge

September 8, 2023 0 By Tom Duggan

Balkan Mining and Minerals will imminently begin a maiden drilling campaign at the Gorge Lithium Project, with plans laid for 12 diamond holes and 1000 metres to systematically test the Koshman and Nelson pegmatite showings after the return of high-grade lithium in Ontario’s Thunder Bay.

Early sampling results including 1.8 metres at 3.75 per cent lithium oxide and 6.8 per cent in rock chips provided the preliminary allure and targets to Gorge, and step-out sampling which returned heavily anomalous levels of lithium, caesium and, tantalum defined further marks for a maiden campaign.

Six holes are planned for both Koshman and Nelson to test the vertical plunge extensions along a prospective pegmatite strike, and clearing of access trails and site preparation will open drilling up for the first half of September.

Managing Director Ross Cotton said the technical team was very excited to be embarking on the maiden program.

“Since acquiring option rights over the project in July 2022, our highly encouraging preliminary exploration work has seen Gorge become rated as a high priority lithium exploration opportunity,” Mr Cotton said.

There are scant few operating lithium mines within Canadian borders, but Rock Tech Lithium and Green Technology Metals both expect to begin operations near Balkan’s projects soon alongside plans to bring a lithium processor to a Thunder Bay province becoming a large part of a northbound ASX land rush.

With the cheapest way to acquire lithium units appearing to be with the drill, lithium buyers are eyeing off early-stage exploration assets, and BMM are now ready to get their first proper look into Gorge Lithium.
