Critical Resources (ASX:CRR) unfurls Mavis pegmatite for Ontario summer

May 29, 2024 Off By Jack Baker

Critical Resources has discovered a large new pegmatite system east of the Mavis Lake Main Zone as fieldwork gets underway in Ontario through the last days of the Canadian springtime.

The uncovering of 31 lithium-caesium-tantalum types weeks into field season was reinforced by an extension to multiple known pegmatites at the fully owned asset, including a 250-metre extension to spodumene-bearing pegmatite 20.

Drilling has so far returned an 8 million tonne at 1.07 per cent lithium oxide resource in place at Mavis Lake and a target is now in place for 18 to 19Mt and between 0.8 and 1.2% Li2O.

Critical Resources Managing Director Alex Cheeseman said it was great to see field teams directly following up on the target and making discoveries at the start of field season.

“The field program has already increased our confidence in our ability to deliver on the recently published exploration target, paving the way for drill testing a number of high-quality targets,” Cheeseman said.

“We look forward to continuing our dual-track strategy of targeting resource growth while progressing our project development and permitting workstreams for Mavis Lake.”

Assays from 83 grab-and-channel samples collected across Mavis Lake will further inform the location of the next drill targets, with a consistently high-grade Tot pegmatite in the northern end currently the top priority.

Drill permits are in to allow testing of all potential target areas, with more stripping and channel sampling due at Tot in July before the Perth and Thunder Bay headquartered explorer finalises its quarry.

A full three-phased metallurgical campaign is already underway in the north after first ore-sorting amenability trials achieved a 150% increase in contained lithia and production of a 1.65% Li2O concentrate.

Drilling plans for the new year are not yet laid, but Critical Resources is confident a stack of intercepts logged after the resource cutoff has already set the scene for next-phase growth at Mavis Lake.

Summertime in Canada starts on June 20, as the northern hemisphere celebrates its annual summer solstice.
