Iggy brings out the lithium big guns

Iggy Tan has announced the ‘Dream Team’ as an ode to his other passion when he is not thinking about his next big mining play.

The former Galaxy Resources Limited boss is returning, making his next big splash after surprising the market at the start of the month by assuming the chair at the newly named Lithium Universe following a 10-year hiatus.

And a “Lithium Dream Team” will lead the project in a style that reminds Tan of his beloved USA 1992 Dream Team, fielding a spread of expert playmakers, perhaps less adept at shooting the three but certainly more skilled than Jordan, Magic, and Larry in spodumene hard rock processing.

Tan’s early career is legendary, renowned for creating the world’s leading lithium business through the Mt Cattlin project and a downstream lithium carbonate plant in China.

The larger-than-life character advocates mindfulness and meditation today, and the assets he put together for Galaxy remain integral to Allkem Limited’s success – a company now valued at US$9.5 billion.

The team includes Mr Patrick Scallan, a seasoned lithium expert who successfully managed the Greenbushes Mine for 25 years, and Dr Jingyuan Liu, Terry Stark, Roger Pover, and Huy Nguyen, who have all held executive roles at Galaxy Resources Limited and, like the legendary collection of hoopsters, are masters of their craft and won’t be out-hustled.

“I have chosen a team with diverse skill sets, but they all share a crucial trait: passion, determination, and expertise to complete the task,” Mr Tan said.

“Their mastery of key positions will ensure Apollo Lithium Project does everything possible to be the first to market in Quebec, Canada, just like we were at Mt Cattlin all those years ago.”

The Team

Tan returned by the immense potential of the Apollo Lithium Project in James Bay and was even more excited when he got the gang back together.

Tans said that his Lithium Dream Team possesses unparalleled knowledge and decades of experience in spodumene hard rock processing and lithium carbonate and hydroxide production.

“The new company has a rich pedigree of lithium experience to establish a spodumene-producing mine in Quebec, Canada, as quickly as possible,” Tan said
“The Lithium Dream Team has a proven history of accelerating projects in the lithium industry, including taking the Mt Cattlin project from the initial resource stage to production within three years.”
