Lithium Universe (ASX:LU7) ahead of processing pace at the QLPH

Lithium Universe (ASX:LU7) ahead of processing pace at the QLPH

December 19, 2023 Off By Tom Duggan

Lithium Universe has continued to advance the Quebec Lithium Processing Hub to production and reported excellent progress towards its lofty ambitions of a multi-purpose battery-grade lithium carbonate refinery running in the eminent lithium hub of Canada.

The 16,000 tpa refinery is expected to produce a final lithium carbonate product of at least 99.5 and 99.9% grade and is also slated to offer anhydrous sodium sulphate and aluminasilicate residue as valuable by-products for sale to the textile and cement industries.

The flow design is now finalised as something closely resembling a Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate Plant which was constructed with the involvement of numerous LU7 members, but now upgraded to be more robust and capable of processing a variety of concentrates from around the world.

“The progress of the engineering study for the QLPH Lithium Refinery by Hatch has been excellent, setting the stage for the Definitive Feasibility Study,” LU7 Chairman Iggy Tan said.

Considering our listing in early August this year, the pace and quality of work demonstrated by Hatch, guided by the Company’s Lithium Dream Team, has been pleasing.”

The Hatch team conducting the engineering study have also provided Block and Process flow diagrams, delivered a Mass Balance and Process Design Criteria, and a location study for optimal site selection.

It led them to the likely-looking site of the Bécancour Industrial Park sitting between Québec City and Montreal, and discussions are now underway to confirm the location.
