Lithium Universe (ASX:LU7) appoint Pat Scallan as Non-Executive Director
August 30, 2023Lithium Universe has appointed Greenbushes manager Pat Scallan OAM as Non-Executive Director as the company moves on bringing a portfolio of hard-rock lithium and rare earth assets in tier-1 Canadian and Australian mining jurisdictions to production.
The hard rock lithium and spodumene specialist had over a quarter of a century of management at Greenbushes, the world’s largest hard rock lithium mine which under his guidance, increased its annual output more than sevenfold from 200,000 tonnes per annum in 1997 to where it stands at over 1.4 million today.
He raised the profile of more than the mine at Greenbushes and was awarded an Order of Australia medal for his community work, long serving the Shire Council and having a hand in multiple developments which improved the facilities and lifestyle of the small West Australian timber and mining town.
Mr Scallan said he was excited at the potential of building new Canadian lithium projects.
“I am excited by the prospects of evaluating a vertically integrated mine to lithium refinery processing hub concept at James Bay. I see a real opportunity for LU7 to develop a value-added strategy in Québec that meets the Canadian government’s likely requirement for the downstream processing of lithium minerals. We have a pedigree of lithium experience in LU7 with a proven track record that can deliver on such a strategy,” he said.
LU7 Chairman Iggy Tan said the company was fortunate to have Patrick join the Board.
“He brings extensive experience in the lithium industry, having operated the world-class Greenbushes Mine and Processing Operation, the largest lithium hard rock mine in the world with the highest-grade orebody,” Mr Tan said.
“His expertise in hard rock exploration, mining, and downstream relationships with major spodumene converters worldwide make him a valuable addition to the LU7 team. Moreover, Pat’s community relations experience and expertise will also be vital to the company,” he added.
Pat Scallan was already a contributor to the Lithium Universe Dream Team and will now take a feature role as the company moves on executing its exploration strategy in the heart of James Bay.
